About the Role

We are seeking a skilled Healthcare Specialist to join our team at Danbury Public Schools. As a key member of our school health program, you will play a vital role in protecting and improving the health and educational success of students.

Job Description

The ideal candidate will have a valid State of Connecticut RN license to practice professional nursing, with a BSN preferred but not required. A minimum of 1 year of clinical nursing experience, preferably in pediatrics and/or community health, is essential. Current CPR certification is also required.

Responsibilities
  • Serve as a member of the school team as the designated health professional, participating in Planning and Placement Team, 504 Team, and Crisis Team meetings.
  • Maintain accurate, comprehensive, well-organized records, logs, surveys, and reports in keeping with state requirements and board policies.
  • Collaborate with parents, students, teachers, support staff, and other professionals to interpret health and developmental assessments.
  • Monitor students with special needs to ensure they can remain in the school setting.
  • Oversee compliance with Connecticut State mandated physical examinations and immunization requirements.
  • Coordinate the administration of prescribed medications and treatments for students during school hours or school-sponsored activities.
  • Provide vision, hearing, and postural screenings as per state regulations and make referrals and follow-up on any deviations from normal.
  • Develop individual health care plans (IHCP) for students with special needs and integrate them into IEP and 504 plans when necessary.
  • Conduct annual in-service trainings for staff, including OSHA Blood Borne Pathogens and Infection Control. Serve as a resource to teachers and administrators on health promotion and disease prevention.
  • Remain current with the school nursing profession through participation in professional development and stay knowledgeable of State of Connecticut laws regarding immunizations, medication administration, health records, and other health-related issues.
  • Offer healthcare treatment and/or emergency services to injured or ill students and staff.
  • Assist families in obtaining a medical home, HUSKY state health insurance, needed immunizations, dental care, or other health-related needs.
Estimated Salary Range

$60,000 - $80,000 per year, depending on experience.
