Key Responsibilities

The Clinical Practice Educator will provide leadership in the delivery of nursing education and instruction to staff and patients/clients based on adult education principles and philosophy within a specific clinical specialty or patient/client population. The CPE will apply nursing theory, advanced knowledge, and leadership concepts in providing clinical guidance and resource support to staff.

The CPE will assist the Manager in establishing and maintaining standards of care and in providing and participating in continuous quality improvement activities. The CPE will provide guidance and support to staff in the application of the nursing process in the provision of patient/client care.

The CPE will also:

  • Support the delivery of patient/client care according to established standards/competencies within the assigned clinical area
  • Provide clinical guidance and support to staff in the application of the nursing process and practice standards for the delivery of care to patients/clients and/or their families
  • Teach and facilitate learning to assist in resolving difficult clinical situations
  • Provide consultation within the area of specialization to nurses and other healthcare professionals
  • Review and maintain the Orientation and Reference manuals and ensure that staff are familiar with the content
  • Participate in the ongoing review and revision of patient/client care standards, procedures, and policies and communicate needed changes to the Manager
  • Promote the attainment of the established educational goals for the unit/program/service
Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a strong background in nursing education and experience in a clinical setting. They will be able to demonstrate expertise in adult education principles and philosophy and have strong leadership and communication skills.

The candidate will also be able to work independently and as part of a team, and have strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills.
