Municipal Design Engineer Job Description

Randstad Canada is seeking a highly skilled Municipal Design Engineer to join a leading Engineering Firm in Toronto. The successful candidate will work on various municipal development projects, applying engineering principles to complete design calculations and ensure the delivery of high-quality projects.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Perform comprehensive engineering design for municipal development ventures, including the design of municipal corridors, watermains, and roadways.
  • Produce blueprint and cross-sectional schematics for municipal infrastructure, particularly municipal road networks.
  • Devise layouts for municipal passages, water conduits, central axis arrangements, and operational road systems.
  • Conduct hydraulic modeling of water bodies, such as creeks and rivers, and floodplain delineation for infrastructure.
  • Design across water conduits, sanitary systems, and storm sewers, determining the appropriate dimensions for sanitary and stormwater management structures.
  • Collaborate with municipal personnel, contractors, the public, and equipment providers to ensure smooth project coordination.
  • Draft technical design documentation and internal communications.
  • Attend project team gatherings to ensure prompt project deliveries.
Requirements:
  • Degree in Civil Engineering or equivalent.
  • Professional Engineer designation (P.Eng.).
  • 5 years minimum of related work experience, specifically with municipal development projects.
  • Strong working knowledge of applicable software, including HEC-2/HEC-RAS, GAWSER, MIDUSS, OTTHYMO, XPSSWMM, and MS Office Suite.
  • Strong knowledge of underground servicing, municipal road design, and water resources principles.
  • Experience with preliminary and final design of roads, bridges, and municipal facilities.
  • Experience developing servicing, grading, and drainage designs.
  • Strong technical report writing skills.
  • Experience with agency approvals and permitting.
  • Experience with using Civil 3D and AutoCAD as a design tool.
