Video Journalist Opportunity at Rogers Sports & Media

We are seeking a skilled Video Journalist to join our dynamic team at Rogers Sports & Media. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for capturing high-quality video content for our news programs, including live and taped segments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operating ENG camera for live and taped segments
  • Basic editing of footage for news segments on Grass Valley (Edius/Stratus) editing systems
  • Operating control room automation for live production
  • Digitizing footage; paying close attention to naming conventions
  • Providing production support to various initiatives and special programs
  • Remaining conversant with all departmental production equipment
  • Ensuring that programs and segments meet company and industry standards for content and quality
  • Working with Production Engineering on equipment faults and failures
  • Editing and posting of media to Social Media and other online content
  • Working with a dynamic team to produce creative stories which capture daily life in Calgary
  • Coming up with original story ideas and producing original stories that you will shoot and edit
  • Delivering stories which will stand out from the competition, emphasizing creativity over traditional methods
  • Your stories will be digital first, and will also deliver for all platforms (radio, TV and web)

Requirements:

  • In-depth knowledge of editing, shooting and technical facilities
  • Experience with ENG/EFP and Studio production including editing both linear and non-linear, camera work
  • Experience with GV editing systems
  • Directing experience with Ross, Overdrive/Inception will be considered an asset
  • A passion for storytelling - you know what makes a great story and know how to tell it
  • Ability to find original stories about people and issues which reflect Calgary's exciting and diverse communities
  • Experience in shooting and editing
  • A self-starter with a can-do, solution-oriented attitude
  • An understanding of multi-platform coverage, not confined by a 'typical' television reporter package
  • News moves fast You must be able to multi-task and deliver for multiple, daily online and broadcast deadlines
  • Able to meet tight deadlines
  • Valid driver's licence and clean driving record
  • Ability to work some evenings and all weekends
