The Area Manager Role
- This is a key leadership position responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Solids Control field team in Canada.
- The successful candidate will be responsible for managing and growing the Canadian field technician team, ensuring that they are equipped with the necessary skills and knowledge to perform their duties effectively.
- A strong focus on safety, teamwork, technology innovation, and operational integrity is essential for this role.
Responsibilities
- Provide mentorship and training to field personnel to ensure safe practices and company directives are met.
- Manage and grow the Canadian field technician team, including Level I, II, III & Field Leaders.
- Work closely with S3S HSE and Shop Managers to align goals and objectives.
- Ability to perform rig up/rig down functions on site, troubleshoot issues, and make regular trips to the job site as needed.
- Ensure all field-level data is collected and submitted on time, including Daily Field Reports, Time Cards, PJSA's, HSE Reports, Expenses, and Inventory.
- Expected to spend >50% of time in the field.
- Able to work a 12-hour shift (tours).
- Able to oversee and manage multiple technician teams on a rotational schedule, including day, night, and swing shifts.
- Must be able to travel domestically to remote rig/site locations in Canada.
- Ability to perform standard rig up and rig out procedures, while coaching and mentoring technicians at every level.
- Will oversee technicians operating and maintaining various solids control equipment, including shaker tanks, centrifuge, drying equipment, and pumps.
- Expert-level understanding of oil and gas drilling processes and Environmental Services (construction, utilities) is required.
- Basic electrical awareness principles are necessary, as well as the ability to identify electrical issues with equipment and know who to call to get it operational.
- Will oversee various solids control services, such as air drilling, barite recovery, de-watering, floc water, fluid transfers, target low gravity solids, cuttings drying/invert recovery, etc.
- Comprehensive understanding of drilling fluid properties, including drilling fluid weight, funnel viscosity, retort analysis, and performing drilling fluid analysis.
- Will oversee routine maintenance services and routine electrical services on various equipment.
- Will oversee and mentor technicians on standard operating procedure for moving cuttings from pits to trailers, using heavy machinery safely and efficiently.
- Must complete mentor certification program to handle variety of personality issues appropriately.
- Will perform rig audits.
- Will pick up and deliver necessary equipment to rig/job site if necessary.
- Will audit daily PJRA/JSA, inspection reports, observation reports, and checklists, daily and as required.
- Will oversee PPE/FR's protocols for staff working in the backyard of a drilling rig or applicable job site.
- Will lead by example, all safety protocols to technicians.
- Will input routine data into various systems, including company Portal.
- Must demonstrate leadership skills, problem-solving abilities, mechanical aptitude, and comprehension of electronics.
