Senior Geotechnical/Rock Mechanics Engineer (Underground)

SRK Consulting is a leading international consulting practice providing integrated consulting services to the global mining and metals sector.

We are seeking a Senior Geotechnical/Rock Mechanics Engineer to join our team.

Description of Responsibilities:

Our team collaborates closely with other technical groups, including structural geology, geology, hydrogeology, mining, and geo-environmental, creating opportunities for cross-disciplinary learning and working on a wide range of project types. Our goal is to develop and retain strong, experienced technical consultants while applying pragmatic, fit-for-purpose approaches and solutions to various project sizes and requirements.

The successful candidate will consult on projects for North American and international clients, requiring travel. Assignments will include providing expertise and applying rock mechanics principles to predominantly underground and some surface mine design issues. This work will involve full project scopes from conceptual studies to detailed design and construction, operational support, and mine closure, liaising with other technical specialists as needed. The position will include preparing proposals, participating in marketing efforts, and developing and leading project teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement geotechnical engineering solutions for underground and surface mine design issues.
  • Provide expertise and apply rock mechanics principles to project assignments.
  • Collaborate with other technical specialists to deliver comprehensive project solutions.
  • Prepare proposals and participate in marketing efforts to secure new business.
  • Develop and lead project teams to achieve project objectives.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in geological, mining, or geotechnical engineering.
  • 7-10 years of relevant experience, with operating mine and consulting experience preferred.
  • Proficiency in 3D geological modeling software.
  • Proficiency in 2D/3D geotechnical numerical modeling skills.
  • Substantial practical experience in geotechnical logging/evaluation, including geotechnical field evaluation program development and management.
  • Hydrogeology experience considered an asset.
  • Strong communication and reporting skills.
  • Demonstrated team leadership and project management experience.
  • Professional registration or eligibility to obtain it.
