This challenging and rewarding opportunity as a Forest Planning Specialist is now available within the Government of Alberta's Forestry and Parks division. Reporting directly to senior management, you will be responsible for providing quantifiable information to support forest planning at multiple landscape scales.

Responsibilities
  1. Evaluate and analyze complex technical submissions from forest industry stakeholders to determine feasibility and alignment with government policies.
  2. Analyze and resolve intricate wood supply issues to inform decision making and support sustainable forest management.
  3. Develop and execute landscape-level resource analyses to inform provincial decisions regarding allowable cuts.
  4. Provide ongoing support to forest planning initiatives through geospatial practices such as mapping, data creation, and maintenance, as well as scripting.
  5. Participate in the review and development of best practices and policy materials to promote sustainable forest management.

As a successful candidate, you will possess a strong foundation in forest management principles, along with advanced skills in spatial and aspatial modeling, programming languages, and geographic information systems. Registration or eligibility to register with the Alberta Association of Forest Management Professionals is also required.
