**Job Summary:**
We are seeking a highly skilled Life Underwriting Expert to join our team at Equitable Life of Canada. The successful candidate will be responsible for assessing and managing risk in large case scenarios, providing expert guidance to underwriters, and contributing to specialized projects in traditional and data-based underwriting.
Main Responsibilities:
- Apply advanced underwriting expertise to assess medical, financial, and non-medical risk factors for affluent and high net worth Canadians.
- Provide mentorship, training, and co-signing to junior underwriters.
- Maintain a high level of accountability in quality and quantity of work with favorable audit results.
- Ensure service standards are met independently and collaboratively with other underwriters to achieve team success.
- Participate in traditional and data-based projects, including claims, rescissions, and reinstatements.
- Prepare, present, and lead development opportunities for distribution partners, colleagues, and business partners.
- Comply with legislative requirements, consumer regulation, and reinsurance treaties related to privacy, disclosure, and risk classification.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
- Superior technical knowledge in medical, financial, and non-medical underwriting.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities with a proactive mindset.
- Comfortable in a dynamic work environment with flexibility to adapt to shifting priorities.
- Strong reinsurance relationships with excellent negotiation skills.
- Strong communication skills, written and verbal.
- Fluency in using data as an underwriting tool or willingness to learn.
- Overall curiosity in all work activities.
- College or university degree or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of demonstrated professional experience as a Life and Critical Illness Underwriter in the affluent and high net worth market.
- FLMI / FALU / CPU designation(s) or currently working towards them.
- Commitment to continuous learning and participation in education enhancement to remain current with medical knowledge and industry underwriting trends.
