Job Opportunity: Teacher of the Deaf

We are seeking a qualified Teacher of the Deaf to join our team at the Provincial and Demonstration Schools Branch. The successful candidate will be responsible for teaching Deaf students in academic programs and programs for students with multiple exceptionalities.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Teach Deaf students using American Sign Language (ASL) as a language of instruction
  • Apply knowledge of bilingual-biliteracy-bicultural education for Deaf students
  • Develop lesson plans and make accommodations and modifications as needed
  • Assess students' knowledge and skills and apply assessment data to instructional next steps
  • Deliver curriculum expectations and conduct student assessments
Requirements:
  • Valid Certificate of Registration and Qualifications from the Ontario College of Teachers
  • Deaf Specialist/Teaching Students Who Are Deaf or Hard of Hearing qualification
  • Junior, Intermediate and/or Senior qualifications required
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL) or willingness to obtain
