Geospatial Data Analyst

Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled Geospatial Data Analyst to join our team at the University of Saskatchewan. This is a full-time, four-month position with the possibility of extension.
About the Role:
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and refining spectral libraries from existing field data and imagery for native and tame grassland landcovers. They will also build on existing deep learning modelling work to explore and develop approaches to update native and tame grassland landcover mapping using multi-year spectral library data, climate data, and newly acquired satellite imagery.
Key Responsibilities:
- Continuously develop and refine spectral libraries from existing field data and imagery for native and tame grassland landcovers
- Develop and implement machine learning models to improve landcover classification using multi-year spectral library data, climate data, and newly acquired satellite imagery
- Manage large and complex datasets, ensuring data quality and integrity
- Effectively communicate project progress and results through written reports and presentations for technical and non-technical audiences
- Collaborate with the project team, including staff from the Ministry of Environment and the research team at the University of Saskatchewan
Requirements:
- Master's degree in Geographic Information Systems, Data Science, Geomatics, Engineering, or other technical disciplines
- 3+ years of experience with GIS, remote sensing, and programming languages such as R and Python
- Strong understanding of geographic information systems, remote sensing principles, and machine learning algorithms
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills
