Cook I

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled Cook I to join our team at NL Health Services. As a Cook I, you will be responsible for preparing and cooking meals for residents and staff, as well as preparing refreshments between meals.

Key Responsibilities:

• Prepare and cook meals for residents and staff, following written and oral instructions.
• Act as a lead worker in preparing, cooking, and serving meals.
• Prepare refreshments between meals, including both regular and special diets.
• Demonstrate an awareness of and be responsible for promoting and supporting person-and family-centered care.
• Partner with all team members to improve worker and patient safety by integrating safety into work practices, identifying risks, and implementing improvements.

Physical Demands:

The successful candidate must be able to regularly move and lift up to 10-25lbs, occasionally move and lift 25-50+lbs, and push/pull with light to medium forces. The work also involves standing/walking, reaching/stretching, bending/twisting, and low-level postures.

Required Qualifications:

• Graduation from high school with a diploma recognized by the Newfoundland and Labrador Department of Education and Early Childhood Development.
• Completion of a commercial cooking course approved by Central Health.
• Experience as a general duty cook in a large-scale commercial or institutional operation.
• Consistent demonstration of the core values of NL Health Services: Innovation, Compassion, Accountability, Respect, and Excellence (I CARE).

Working Conditions:

The work environment may involve exposure to loud noises, scented/chemical products, and other allergens. Personal protective equipment may be required in certain areas.

• A competitive salary range of $23.78-$26.19 per hour.
• A call-in as needed schedule with shift work possible.
• A Certificate of Conduct from the RCMP or local police authority is required.
