Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Homeroom Teacher to join our team at York Region District School Board. As a Homeroom Teacher, you will play a vital role in developing strong foundational skills and promoting positive character development and personal growth in Junior School students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan, teach, and assess students in accordance with BC Ministry of Education Curriculum and our homeroom program.
  • Teach Language Arts, Science, Social Studies, Mathematics, Applied Design Skills and Technology, and Career Education, as well as one block of Learning Services, Physical Education, or TOCing Design.
  • Design and implement lessons that build core competencies and support growth in executive functioning and cognitive processing using in-school programs.
  • Support the development of Individual Education Plans for each student in your classes.
  • Collaborate with faculty members to ensure students receive the highest quality education and programming.
  • Provide ongoing feedback to students and parent/guardians regarding student progress.
  • Participate in co-curricular and extracurricular activities that enhance students' experiences at school.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field.
  • Bachelor of Education, Elementary focus.
  • BC Teacher Certification (or equivalent).
  • Experience teaching reading using a structured literacy approach is an asset.
  • Work with students who have learning differences is preferred.
  • Independent school experience and coaching/extracurricular experience are assets.
  • Class 4 license or willingness to obtain one is also an asset.
