Job Summary

The Building Condition Assessor is a key member of the BGIS Professional Services team, responsible for conducting thorough building condition assessments to identify asset condition and deficiencies. This role provides valuable experience in site evaluation and engineering judgment, working independently while being supported by a best-in-industry team of engineering professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct site visits at client locations to perform building component identification and condition evaluation.
  • Complete reporting using BGIS software for use in RealAsset, our developed Asset Management software.
  • Provide recommendations and cost estimates for building envelopes, components, and systems repair or replacement for inclusion in the capital budget plan.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • University or college diploma in a relevant technical field such as architectural, civil, mechanical, electrical engineering, building science, or building engineering.
  • Entry-level position, but 1-3 years of relevant work experience would be an asset.
  • General knowledge of technical standards and processes in completing building condition assessments, particularly American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) Practice E.
  • General knowledge of cost estimating for replacement and repair of building components and systems.
  • General knowledge of building science, including base knowledge of architectural building envelope, mechanical and electrical building systems, or site components.
  • Ability to work independently and learn quickly.
  • Strong written communication skills.
  • Proficient with MS Excel and ability to learn other applications quickly.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Detailed-oriented.
  • Valid drivers' license with ability to travel 50-70%.

Licenses and/or Professional Accreditation

  • Enrolled as EIT, P. Eng, or RET an asset.
