About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate Music Director Volunteer to join our team at Volunteer MBC. As a Music Director Volunteer, you will play a vital role in planning, organizing, and facilitating music classes and workshops for our residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Program Development: Plan and organize weekly music classes/workshops or lead a resident choir or band;
  • Teaching and Facilitation: Teach simple, failure-free musical techniques in a non-threatening environment and encourage residents to participate at their highest level of independence;
  • Equipment Management: Maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies, ensuring they are sanitized before and after each session;
  • Community Engagement: Arrange for guest speakers, contests, and outings to encourage residents' interest and organize rehearsals and performances for families and fellow residents;
  • Documentation and Communication: Document attendance and participation of each resident and notify the supervisor of any needed items, concerns, or progress following each session;
Requirements
  • Age and Experience: Must be 18 years of age or older and have knowledge/experience of music;
  • Personality and Skills: Have a motivating and encouraging demeanor, patience, a positive attitude, and enjoy spending time with older people;
  • Previous Experience: Previous experience in a palliative, long-term care, or community care setting, or a recreational setting, is an asset;
  • Communication and Teamwork: Have strong active listening skills, an ability to stay calm and seek assistance if needed, and written/verbal fluency in English (additional languages may be beneficial).
Commitment and Training

This is a Medium Term commitment starting with shifts available anytime. Shifts will be 1.5 hours in length and will be scheduled in agreement with the Assistant Director of Programs. You will receive role-specific training and AODA training.
