Key Responsibilities
  • Underwriting and Risk Assessment
    • Review and evaluate new, renewal, and mid-term changes for commercial automobile clients to determine the nature and degree of risk involved.
    • Acquire further information on applications and risks when necessary.
    • Determine whether to accept or reject the risk, or accept the risk subject to certain conditions.
    • Ensure that risks are properly rated and classified according to corporate guidelines.
    • Makes timely decisions while considering territory, underwriting guidelines and approaches, pricing strategies, and regulatory requirements.
  • Broker Relationship Management
    • Deliver a seamless experience for commercial automobile brokers by combining product, technology, and services.
    • Act as the primary point of contact for assigned brokers and provide exceptional customer service.
    • Develop and maintain working relationships with brokers to generate a flow of profitable business.
    • Collaborate with the Business Development team to ensure a coordinated and well-organized experience for our brokers.
  • Production and Service
    • Meet growth targets for assigned brokers while maintaining underwriting quality of risk requirements.
    • Promote and sell supporting products to brokers, focusing on meeting customer needs.
    • Negotiate with brokers to determine conditions, limitations, rates, and premiums.
    • Track production of assigned brokers to ensure premium targets are being achieved.
  • Policy Processing and Functional Supervision
    • Process new, renewal, and mid-term applications, revisions, cancellations, and quotes.
    • Calculate premiums, ensuring that appropriate rates are used and applicable discounts and surcharges are applied.
    • Act as a resource and provide support, guidance, advice, and direction to junior underwriters.
  • Leadership and Corporate Management
    • Contribute to a culture of high-performing workforce and support divisional succession plans.
    • Participate in leadership development across the company and support team and workforce readiness.
    • Enable the success of programs and policies aligned with corporate, strategic, and divisional strategies.
Requirements
  • A two-year diploma from an accredited post-secondary education institution in a relevant field of study, such as Business.
  • 5-7 years of experience in commercial automobile underwriting.
  • Knowledge of the principles and practice of insurance, underwriting policies and procedures, and applicable insurance products.
  • Knowledge of market conditions and industry participants, including competitor activities, broker relationships, legislation, and regulatory environments.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external partners.
