About Our Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Forestry Technician to join our team at the Government of Nova Scotia. As a key member of our department, you will play a critical role in delivering programs related to forestry, wildlife, and recreation resource management.

Primary Accountabilities

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Managing Crown Land and Private Land resources
  • Monitoring compliance with Forest Sustainability Regulations
  • Preventing and suppressing forest fires
  • Conducting wildlife studies, biological surveys, and insect and disease surveys
  • Managing parks operations and property maintenance
  • Administering land and providing public liaison and education activities
Qualifications and Experience

To be successful in this role, you will require:

  • A recognized two-year forestry or related Natural Resources Technical Diploma
  • Proven knowledge and experience in wildlife management, wood acquisition, and forest resource management
  • Strong communication and problem-solving skills
  • Experience with GPS systems and ArcView software
  • A valid NS driver's license and access to a motor vehicle

Working Conditions

This role will require working in a combination of office and outdoor environments, with some field projects involving exposure to insects and extreme temperatures. You will also be required to work irregular scheduled hours, including standby and callback situations.

Additional Information

This is a term employment opportunity with an anticipated end date of March 31, 2026. The appointment status will depend on the start date of the successful candidate.
