We are seeking a highly skilled Hedge Manager to join our Accounting Policy and Procedures Group at Scotiabank. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for implementing hedging strategies under International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) to ensure the Bank qualifies eligible derivatives for hedge accounting treatment.
Key Responsibilities- Collaborate with Front Office and Business Lines: Work closely with front office and other business lines to review eligibility, identify associated strategies, and complete required documentation for hedging requests.
- Monitor Hedging Relationships: Ongoing monitoring of hedging relationships to ensure they continue to meet the requirements for hedge qualification and have high effectiveness.
- Manage Month-End Close: Ensure all instruments in hedging relationships are active and obtain confirmation of hedged item existence and hedge activity from various business areas monthly.
- Prepare Financial Disclosures: Prepare information for the quarterly and annual financial disclosure, and provide support for ad-hoc analysis and financial reporting.
- Stay Current with Industry Best Practices: Remain current with emerging industry best practices for hedge qualification through research and critical reading of articles issued by regulatory bodies and industry associations.
- Self-Driven and Analytical: Self-driven, analytical, and collaborative problem-solving, time-management, and communication skills are required.
- Finance and Financial Products Knowledge: Solid knowledge of finance and financial products, including various derivatives.
- Post-Secondary Degree and Industry Experience: Post-secondary degree in Finance/Accounting/business with a minimum of 4 years industry experience. An accounting designation (CPA) or working towards designation is an asset. A CFA designation is desirable.
- Technical Skills: Knowledge of Peak or system trading system, PeopleSoft EGL, OBI, Excel, and PowerPoint.
