Embedded Software Technical Manager

Schneider Electric is a leader in energy management and automation. We are seeking an experienced Embedded Software Technical Manager to join our Prosumer NAM team in Richmond, BC.

About the Role

This is a key leadership position that requires a strong background in product design and manufacturing. As an Embedded Software Technical Manager, you will lead a team of embedded firmware engineers and be responsible for the development and implementation of embedded firmware solutions.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead and manage a team of embedded firmware engineers, providing technical guidance, coaching, and performance feedback.
  • Oversee the development and implementation of embedded firmware solutions, ensuring adherence to project timelines, quality standards, and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including hardware engineers, software architects, and product managers, to define firmware specifications and system requirements.
  • Drive the firmware development process from concept to release, including firmware design, coding, testing, and debugging.
  • Conduct regular code reviews to ensure code quality, maintainability, and adherence to coding standards.
  • Manage firmware project schedules, resource allocation, and deliverables, ensuring timely completion and successful project outcomes.
  • Identify and mitigate technical risks and challenges, proactively proposing solutions to ensure project success.
  • Collaborate with external partners and vendors, managing relationships and coordinating firmware-related activities.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • ~10+ years of proven experience in embedded firmware development, including hands-on experience with programming languages like C/C++ for embedded Linux or other POSIX compliant operating systems.
  • Strong leadership and managerial skills, with the ability to motivate and guide a team towards successful project delivery.
  • Experience with firmware development tools, debugging techniques, and version control systems.
  • Promotes and embraces the Test Driven Development (TDD) and Agile (Scrum) methodologies.
