Meridia Recruitment Solutions is seeking a highly skilled and experienced General Counsel to join our client's leadership team. As a strategic business partner, the General Counsel will play a pivotal role in shaping the company's legal strategy and ensuring compliance with all applicable regulations.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Legal Advisory: Provide expert counsel on business strategies, ensuring alignment with the company's objectives in areas such as real estate and operations.
- Business Partnering: Work seamlessly across the organization and collaborate closely with internal and external stakeholder departments to add strategic value and ensure legal matters support overall business goals.
- Comprehensive Legal Oversight: Manage the preparation, review, negotiation, and execution of a wide range of legal agreements.
- Intellectual Property Management: Lead trademark applications, manage copyright portfolios, and enforce brand trademark rights globally.
- Employment Law Expertise: Advise on Canadian employment law matters, ensuring compliance and effective risk management.
- Litigation and Dispute Resolution: Oversee disputes and litigation, protecting the company's interests both internally and externally.
- Regulatory Compliance: Stay ahead of legislative changes, ensuring compliance and advising on the implementation of new regulations.
- Leadership: Lead and develop a high-performing legal team, driving continuous improvement and fostering a proactive approach to legal challenges.
- Global Market Expansion: Provide strategic legal guidance and support for entry into new international markets. Ensure compliance with local laws, navigate international regulatory landscapes, and manage cross-border legal complexities to facilitate smooth and successful global expansion.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have a law degree (LL.B. or JD), with active membership in good standing with a provincial or territorial law society. Professional experience will include multiple years of experience in a law firm or in-house counsel role, particularly in drafting, reviewing, and negotiating complex legal agreements, extensive knowledge of federal and provincial compliance, regulatory, and employment laws. Experience in international business law is preferred.
The ideal candidate will be a strategic and innovative legal professional with exceptional interpersonal skills, able to effectively communicate and build relationships. Proactive and adaptable, the General Counsel will be self-motivated with a positive outlook, adept at navigating change and solving complex legal challenges creatively. Able to work across all levels of the organization and with external partners, the successful candidate will have a track record of engaging and developing teams, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture.
