Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Supportive Independent Living Worker to join our team at WJS Canada. As a Supportive Independent Living Worker, you will play a vital role in supporting individuals with developmental disabilities or mental illness to live independently and achieve their goals.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mentor and teach life skills, including communication, coping with emotions and change, budgeting, household management, and self-care.
  • Promote inclusion in community activities, such as artistic, educational, and recreational programming.
  • Assist clients in setting and achieving goals, and provide support during setbacks and celebrate successes.
  • Link clients to community support services and assist with daily living skills, such as meal preparation and household chores.
  • Drive clients in care and supervise/participate in recreational, leisure, and vocational activities in the community.
  • Administer medication and provide first aid when necessary.
Requirements
  • Experience working with developmental disabilities or mental illness.
  • High School Diploma, ideally with post-secondary education in a related human services field.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver's License, reliable vehicle, clean driver's abstract, and adequate insurance.
  • Skills in coaching/assisting individuals in life skills, anger management, daily chores, self-help, and problem-solving.
  • Commitment to philosophies and principles of community-based living for individuals in service.
  • Good computer skills, as all files are electronic.
