Senior Electrical Estimator for High Voltage Transmission Projects

About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Electrical Estimator to join our team. As a key member of our Utilities sector, you will be responsible for accurately estimating the cost of all elements for High Voltage Transmission projects.

This includes estimating labour, equipment and materials for supply and installation, as well as directing, preparing and documenting work completion estimates for electrical/hydro utilities construction projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Shared accountability for the overall financial performance of awarded projects;
  • Analyzing documents, drawings, specifications, addenda and quotations in preparation for pricing;
  • Reviewing project sites prior to price preparation;
  • Performing quantity take-off from drawings where applicable;
  • Coordinating pricing from Suppliers/Subcontractors and incorporating into estimate;
  • Collaborating with Procurement to obtain pricing from Suppliers and incorporating into estimate;
  • Collaborating effectively with Operations, PMO, Finance, Procurement and Owners staff as appropriate;
  • Formulating all costs for tender submission - labour, equipment, material, rentals and subcontracts;
  • Accountable for accuracy and completeness of submissions;
  • Conducting Bid Closing and Bid Handover meetings, and job set-ups as required;
  • Preparing recommendations for award of Subcontracts;
  • Ensuring the distribution of documentation appropriately upon award;
  • Tracking, forecasting and reporting on the financial and operational performance of selected projects and providing data to support forecasts;
  • Supporting Scope Change development as required;
  • Providing technical support to field staff as appropriate;
  • Ensuring Post Bid/Post Project Analysis completion and ensuring that associated learnings are captured, and that appropriate internal communication takes place;
  • Shared accountability for the overall financial performance of awarded projects;
  • Assisting with Prequalification, RFQ and RFI submissions as required;
Requirements
  • Diploma/Degree/Trade Certification – electrical/hydro focus;
  • 5-10 years of experience as an estimator;
  • Lump Sum, Unit rate, EPC, budgetary and MSA estimating experience;
  • Transmission field operations experience is an asset;
  • Transmission project management experience is an asset;
  • Hard Dollar and/or HeavyBid software experience is an asset;
  • Ability to read and understand Contractual terms and conditions, COoP documents, and design drawings as it relates to pricing impacts;
  • Self-motivated with excellent organizational skills;
  • Strong computer skills - estimating software, P6, MS Excel/Word/MS Outlook, MS Teams;
  • Ability to work accurately, effectively under pressure. Adaptable to flexible work schedule when required to meet deadlines, working independently with minimal supervision, and with others as a team;
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel as required;
  • Professional designation an asset (P.Eng., C.E.T., CTech).
