Cost Controller

About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Cost Controller to join our team at Colas Canada Inc. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing accurate monthly cost control reports, revised budgets, and earned value comparisons.
Main Responsibilities
Tender Budget / Revised Budget:
- Prepare detailed target budgets and revised budgets for assigned scope of work.
- Define schedule of target budget preparation and communicate it to the team.
- Prepare main hypothesis and lead the process until its closing.
- Analyze variances and propose plan of actions in liaison with budget owners and validation by the Project management team.
Monthly Cost Control:
- Liaise with budget owners to obtain progress after monthly cutoff date.
- Analyze progress declared by budget owners to ensure accuracy and consistency for month over month reporting.
- Generate earned values and compare with actual cost and liaise with finance department.
- Compare, analyze, and propose actions to mitigate potential overruns and improve savings in close coordination with budget owners.
- Identify red flags regarding potential major losses.
- Compare earned value with forecast.
- Lead reviews of Cost Control report with budget owners and project management team for final review and approval.
Risk Management:
- Ensure monthly review of risks and opportunities register and analysis of mitigation/improvement plans.
- Capture updates of R&O register as needed.
- Facilitate workshops/meetings between all parties to identify and categorize threats and opportunities.
Review and Submission of Reports:
- Inputs to JV's monthly reports as requested to issue to each JV partner.
- Inputs to Monthly report to JV's Executive committee.
- Inputs to any other forums as needed.
Extension of Time:
- Support Commercial / Claims team to provide actual and forecasted costs.
- Support project management in decision-making process by providing all information and analysis related to costs.
- Carry out active role in trouble shooting project costs related issues.
- Any other tasks assigned by the Project Controls Manager.
Requirements
Education:
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Construction Management, or related field.
Experience:
5+ years of related project controls experience in complex design/construction heavy civil projects.
Skills:
Basic engineering knowledge/understanding.
Proficient PC skills including proficiency in Project Controls Software and Microsoft Office Suite, superior Excel skills, JDE, and Primavera (P6).
