About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Category Manager to join our team at Avondale Stores Limited. As a Category Manager, you will be responsible for developing and implementing category strategies and plans to achieve sales and profit targets.

Key Responsibilities
  • Category Strategy Development: Develop and implement category strategies and plans to achieve sales and profit targets.
  • Market Research and Analysis: Conduct market research and analysis for consumer trends, competitor products, and market pricing to enhance sales in our stores.
  • Market Dynamics Monitoring: Monitor market dynamics, including consumer preferences, industry trends, and regulatory requirements, and adjust category strategies accordingly.
  • Product Assortment Management: Manage product assortment, including assortment planning, selection, and optimization.
  • Pricing Strategies: Determine pricing strategies and manage price positioning to optimize sales and profitability.
  • Inventory Management: Monitor inventory levels and ensure alignment with sales forecasts, working closely with the purchasers and store managers to minimize overstock and out-of-stocks.
  • Store Setup and Product Placement: Work closely with the merchandiser team to ensure optimal store setup and product placements.
  • Sales Data Analysis: Analyze sales data and key performance indicators to identify opportunities for improvement and make data-driven recommendations.
  • Performance Reviews: Conduct regular performance reviews of products and suppliers to ensure they meet quality standards and customer expectations.
  • Industry Trends and Developments: Stay updated on industry trends, new product developments, and emerging technologies relevant to the category.
Requirements
  • Education: Completion of a University degree in Business Merchandising, Marketing, Business Management, or a related field.
  • Experience: Minimum 3 years of experience in a category management role in the retail industry, with grocery retail or beverage alcohol preferred.
  • Knowledge: Knowledge of product categories typical to the grocery/convenience or beverage alcohol sectors.
  • Supply Chain and Inventory Management: Familiarity with supply chain and inventory management principles.
  • Category Management Tools: Proficiency in using category management tools.
  • Financial Principles: Strong understanding of financial principles and ability to analyze profitability and sales data.
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Proficient skill in Microsoft Office Suite, with emphasis on Excel, Pivot tables, and Power Query usage.
  • Communication and Negotiation: Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of company personnel and work-related associates, and negotiate and influence others effectively.
  • Teamwork and Time Management: Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment, and independently when required, with excellent organizational, time management, and multitasking skills.
  • Travel and Transportation: Ability to travel as required to meet suppliers or conduct store visits, with a valid driver's license, clean driving record, and willingness to travel within the Niagara Peninsula.
  • Criminal Record Check: Able to pass a police background check.
