About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Corporate Lawyer to join our team at goeasy Ltd. as a Legal Counsel. As a key member of our Legal & Corporate Affairs group, you will play a critical role in providing legal and regulatory advice and guidance to the company on a variety of matters.

Key Responsibilities
  • Contract Review and Vendor Management: Lead legal process and review in the area of vendor management, including new vendor selection, onboarding, contract review and approval; develop and enhance vendor management processes.
  • Compliance and Regulatory Advice: Provide legal and regulatory advice and guidance to the company on a variety of matters, including consumer protection, privacy, and customer resolutions.
  • Legal Research and Analysis: Conduct legal research on areas impacting the business, working in conjunction with the Director, Government Relations.
  • Business Partnership and Collaboration: Develop a strong and effective working relationship with all levels of Management to provide proper direction, influence and counsel with respect to legal matters.
  • Issue Identification and Resolution: Identify opportunities and issues that arise, and support the Director, Legal & Corporate Affairs, and Chief Legal Officer in providing creative and business-oriented options and solutions.
  • Support to Senior Leadership: Support the Chief Legal Officer in the areas of corporate governance and corporate policies.
  • Legal Proceedings and Litigation: Support legal proceedings, whether by or against the company, to safeguard the legitimate interest of the company.
  • Practical Legal Advice: Provide practical and pragmatic legal opinions covering a wide range of functional areas as required.
  • Corporate Records and Registration: Support the Legal & Corporate Affairs group in the maintenance and administration of all corporate records and registrations.
Requirements
  • 2-4 years of working experience, preferably in a dynamic corporate legal department.
  • Combination of in-house experience supporting financial services and/or a public company preferred.
  • Membership in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario, with demonstrated expertise in all relevant areas of the law.
  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit and is not afraid to challenge the status quo.
  • Superior relationship building skills and proven success in connecting with different functional areas.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills.
  • Confident and proactive self-starter, skilled in taking initiative.
  • Sound judgment and strong decision-making skills.
  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite and other business-related software.
