Job Title: Individual Support Worker

Job Summary:

Okanagan College is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Individual Support Worker to provide support to students with special needs in our Accessible Education and Training program.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide a variety of supports in and out of the classroom for students with special needs, including mobility support, personal care, communication support, social support, study skills, and learning assistance.
  • Support the instructor in modifying learning materials, material delivery, and evaluation.
  • Liaise with the student's caregivers, community network, and the Accessible Education and Training department to ensure clear communication and coordination of support services.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements:

  • Completion of Grade 12 plus graduation from a one-year community college program in a related area, such as a social services field.
  • Up to and including 6 months of related experience.
  • Knowledge of the issues related to students with special needs, strong communication skills, good time management, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A minimum CEA or HSW Certificate, in addition to 6 months of experience working with students with special needs.

Working Conditions:

This is a non-regular part-time position, working 5 hours per week, with a desired start date of October 1, 2024.
