About the Role

The University of Waterloo is seeking a highly skilled Marketing and Communications Coordinator to join our team. As a key member of our department, you will be responsible for developing and implementing integrated internal and external communications strategies to support the university's goals and objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive internal communications plan to foster increased information sharing amongst staff, faculty, and other stakeholders.
  • Lead the development and implementation of an effective external communications program to engage a wide range of stakeholders and audiences.
  • Conduct research and interviews to develop compelling copy for marketing collateral that supports strategic initiatives.
  • Write and edit online content in alignment with digital content writing best practices and web accessibility legislative requirements.
  • Establish a strategy for a meaningful social media presence using a variety of platforms to showcase graduate research and alumni achievements.
  • Provide strategic oversight on the use of digital communications to engage the internal and external community.
  • Implement and leverage the university's websites, social media, and digital signage to grow the university's online presence and promote the work of faculty.
  • Utilize photography, video, and other visual storytelling tools to enhance communications efforts.
  • Liaise with the Faculty of Engineering's Advancement and Outreach to identify goals and strategies to ensure consistent messaging.
  • Support and publicize annual and special events for undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Attend events to compose notes capturing key messages, take photographs, and network with attendees to provide content for stories.
  • Maintain an exceptional understanding of brand guidelines and promote a unified look and feel for the university through the creation and maintenance of suites of promotional material.
  • Encourage adherence to brand guidelines among faculty, staff, and students by fielding questions and providing direction and expert counsel on best practices.
  • Advance equity, diversity, and inclusion in all materials and efforts in consultation and collaboration with the Equity Office.

Qualifications

  • University degree in Communications, English, Marketing, or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
  • 2-5 years of experience in a marketing and/or communications role, experience in an educational setting considered an asset.
  • Experience developing marketing and communication strategies.
  • Knowledge of student recruitment marketing and enrollment management principles.
  • Excellent promotional/persuasive writing and storytelling abilities with a demonstrated track record of success.
  • Excellent understanding of English grammar.
  • Experience with a content management system and best practices for web writing.
  • Experience with providing excellent customer service.
  • Familiarity with social media (video creation considered an asset).
  • Ability to build consensus and foster teamwork among a variety of stakeholders.
  • Excellent presentation abilities (preparation and delivery).
