Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Electrical Systems Design Specialist to join our team in Burnaby, BC. The successful candidate will have a strong background in electrical engineering, with a focus on building services and distribution systems.

Responsibilities:

  1. Direct and coordinate electrical planning and implementation to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and work order requirements.
  2. Report on work compliance with relevant codes, standards, and procedures.
  3. Provide designs for cable tray layouts, electrical equipment arrangements, lighting layouts, and LV single-line diagrams.
  4. Perform electrical calculations, including volt-drop, EHT heat loss, illumination level, distribution transformer sizing, and panel loading.
  5. Prepare specifications for the purchase of materials and equipment.
  6. Operate computer-assisted engineering and design software, such as AutoCAD and MicroStation/PDS.
  7. Provide expertise and guidance in the identification, analysis, and resolution of problems.
  8. Create technical reports, documentation, calculations, and sketches.
  9. Develop sustainable working relationships to ensure positive resolutions with all contacts.
  10. Perform electrical studies as assigned.
  11. Create conceptual designs for assigned projects.
  12. Create specifications as needed.
  13. Prepare cost estimates and equipment layouts.
  14. Oversee the implementation of designs.
  15. Provide resource estimates and schedules for projects.
  16. Making technical decisions.
  17. Directing and coordinating other electrical aspects of project teams.
  18. Maintaining records of project resources.
  19. Participating in department training programs.
  20. Maintaining up-to-date electrical engineering knowledge and staying current with industry trends and best practices.
  21. Business Development Support.
  22. Supporting the Business Development Team (BD) to effectively manage and expand existing customer relationships.
  23. Supporting the BD team to grow and develop a new customer base.
  24. Supporting BD activities, including proposal preparation, attendance at conferences, seminars, etc., for networking and promoting the company.

Qualifications & Technical Software Skills:

  1. 5 to 8 years' work experience from graduation level, possible PMP designation or relevant work experience.
  2. Professional Engineer's designation in BC or another Canadian Province.
  3. Demonstrated design of distribution-related electrical systems is considered an asset.
  4. Demonstrated design of building systems, e.g., fire alarm, data/voice, security, door access controls, lighting controls.
  5. Demonstrated design of hospitals, e.g., nurse call, normal, vital, and delayed vital power systems, fire alarm, data/voice, security, door access controls, lighting controls.
  6. Demonstrated understanding of engineering theories and principles.
  7. Demonstrated use of ETAP, a power system analysis software.
  8. Demonstrated use of AGI32, a lighting analysis software.
  9. Beginner to Intermediate skills with drafting tools, such as AutoCAD, REVIT, and/or MicroStation, are preferred.
  10. Able to conduct detailed calculations to ensure that designs meet engineered standards and applicable codes.
  11. Experience with multiple phases of projects, including preliminary and detailed design, tendering, construction supervision, and commissioning, is an asset.
  12. Valid Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator's License to facilitate independent travel to project sites and other office locations.
  13. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.
  14. Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to interact with a range of personalities to establish effective working relationships with stakeholders.
