Durham College is seeking an experienced and motivated professional who shares its commitment to quality and student success. The School of Science, Engineering and Information Technology requires a part-time professor to teach Building Information Modelling I: Drafting and Drawings.
Course Overview
The main objective of this course is to familiarize students with the tools needed to create a model and to document a project using Revit structure. This course deals with the techniques and standards required to communicate graphically. Students' ability to interpret and read architectural and construction plans, drawings, terminology, scales, symbols, and specifications used in residential and industrial, commercial, and institutional (ICI) construction are explored.
Course Outline
The course covers the basic principles of Revit Structure Technology and Building Information Modelling (BIM). Revit structure 2017 is demonstrated with extensive hands-on experience in a computer lab. Different topics are covered, including the advantage of BIM, Revit interface, modelling tools, and building structure elements, such as columns, beams, beam systems, floors, foundation, reinforcement, toposurface, annotations, detailing, sheets, and printing.
Responsibilities
- Create a positive learning environment that accommodates students' diverse cultural and educational backgrounds, experiences, and individual learning styles.
- Utilize principles of adult education to actively engage students in the learning process.
- Effectively use educational technologies to support learning, manage and post grades, and deliver hybrid and on-line courses.
- Develop curriculum that uses appropriate strategies and tools to assess student learning.
- Ensure that course and program curriculum is current and relevant.
- Work independently and demonstrate initiative.
- Work effectively with students, the program team, and a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Requirements
- A relevant degree combined with industry credentials (PhD is an asset).
- A minimum of five years of recent (within the past three years) and relevant work experience.
- Teaching experience at the post-secondary level with a demonstrated understanding and application of Universal Design for Learning and current assessment methodologies.
- Experience participating in industry-led or community-based applied research is an asset.
- Demonstrated use of current technologies to support student learning and the management of grades.
- Proven track-record of life-long learning.
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders, including students, faculty, support staff, administrators, and community stakeholders.
- Understanding of the Ontario college system.
