Nursing Students Sought for Personal Support Worker Roles

The Huron County Homes for the Aged Department is recruiting Nursing Students to work as Personal Support Workers with our multidisciplinary teams at Huronview and Huronlea.

Huronview and Huronlea provide health services for individuals who require nursing and personal care 24 hours a day. As part of our team, you will have opportunities to utilize your training and skills, including technology integration in care planning and electronic order processing.

Personal Support Workers assist residents with activities of daily living and perform specific interventions outlined on individual care plans, working closely with the interdisciplinary team.

Key Responsibilities:

• Adhere to policies, procedures, and mission/vision/values statements of the Home.
• Maintain professionalism with residents, staff, families, volunteers, community members, and agency representatives.
• Maintain confidentiality and privacy of residents and staff as required under legislation and policies.
• Acknowledge responsibility for quality of care and service provided.

Accountability:

• Awareness of Resident Bill of Rights and promotion of resident-centered care.
• Assist residents with activities of daily living and meet their basic needs through understanding of individual care plans.
• Perform personal care and selected nursing measures to promote comfort and safety according to care plan and policies.
• Demonstrate awareness of resident's cultural, spiritual, psycho-social, and restorative needs, as well as activation programs available.
• Observe and report significant changes in resident's physical and emotional conditions to Registered Staff verbally and in computerized file, maintaining respect and privacy.

Qualifications and Skills:

• Registered with a recognized institution in Bachelor of Science Nursing degree program.
• Focus on resident safety.
• Experience working with seniors and/or chronic care residents in healthcare facilities or community settings, with genuine interest and concern for seniors.
• Maturity and tact demonstrated.
• Ability to communicate verbally and in writing.

Wage and Benefits:

As per SEIU collective agreement, the hourly wage is $- plus 10% in lieu of benefits and 4% vacation pay. Shift premiums vary. Proof of COVID-19 immunization is a condition of employment.
