Job Summary

The Accounting Supervisor plays a pivotal role in the financial operations of The Virgin Islands Water & Power Authority, overseeing the accounting functions and ensuring the accuracy of financial reports. This position requires a deep understanding of accounting principles, practices, and procedures.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develops and implements work plans to meet organizational objectives, prioritizing tasks and supervising employees to ensure timely completion.
  • Serves as a subject matter expert, assigning and reviewing the work of accountants engaged in budget preparation, financial reporting, and variance analysis.
  • Prepares and reviews complex financial schedules, work papers, and summary information, ensuring accuracy and compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Designs and maintains budgeting systems to facilitate expenditure control and management.
  • Provides advisory services to management on financial matters, including expenditure review and budget planning.
  • Evaluates employee performance, making recommendations for skill enhancement and improvement.
  • Recommends personnel actions, such as promotions, transfers, and disciplinary measures.
  • Trains new employees on company policies, safety regulations, and operational procedures.
Requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting theory, practices, and procedures, with a focus on financial transactions and regulatory compliance.
  • Sound understanding of accounting systems and control, including budget preparation and financial reporting.
  • Ability to apply accounting principles to a wide range of financial transactions, preparing and presenting standard financial reports.
  • Effective time management and task coordination skills, prioritizing tasks to meet deadlines.
  • Supervisory experience, with the ability to manage the activities of accountants and evaluate their performance.
  • Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyze financial records and reports in accordance with accounting principles and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to express ideas clearly and concisely in oral and written form.
