About the RoleThe Registered Practical Nurse (RPN) role models clinical excellence and adheres to the core competencies of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO). This includes working collaboratively as a member of the healthcare team to provide direct patient care based on the three-factor framework outlined in the College of Nurses of Ontario standard, RN and RPN Practice: The Client, Nurse and the Environment.
Responsibilities- Provides patient-focused care within the RPN scope of practice, utilizing the three-factor framework of the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Fulfills duties according to established hospital policies and procedures, including emergency codes.
- Communicates effectively with patients, families, and all members of the healthcare team.
- Collaborates with Registered Nurses to provide elements of care for patients/clients with complex health issues.
- Collaborates with other members of the interprofessional healthcare team.
- Contributes to ongoing assessment and documentation of each patient's health status.
- Aids in developing and implementing the Plan of Care and evaluating its effectiveness.
- Aids in orienting/preceptoring new staff members and students to clinical units.
- Serves as a role model and champion to integrate safe, best practices into daily activities.
- RPN diploma from a recognized school of nursing.
- Recent related experience in acute general medicine nursing preferred.
- Recent experience with initiation and maintenance of IV therapy preferred.
- Experience with health teaching preferred.
- Knowledge of complex and geriatric medical populations.
- Demonstrated knowledge of skin assessment and wound care.
- Ability to function to the full scope of nursing practice as per the College of Nurses of Ontario.
- Commitment to ongoing learning, professional development, and continuous quality improvement.
- Demonstrated understanding and compliance with patient and staff safety policies and procedures.
$75,000 - $90,000 per year, depending on experience.
