About the Role

This Senior Tax Specialist position is responsible for tax compliance and planning for AltaGas' US operations. The role involves preparing and reconciling tax filings for various government agencies, including US Federal, state, and local governments.

  • Prepare or assist with filings for utility & non-utility tax, state, and local sales / use tax, state / local property tax, federal / state excise, franchise, fuel tax, business registrations and annual reports, tax exemption certificates, and other general tax or informational filings that may become required.
  • Take a set of facts, research the applicable tax laws, develop an appropriate tax strategy, and present it to management.
  • Participate in SALT aspects of transactions, including due diligence.
Key Requirements
  1. Demonstrated ability to logically analyze business problems and present diverse ideas, both verbally and in writing.
  2. Demonstrated ability to accomplish tasks independently and under tight timelines.
  3. Demonstrated ability to establish rapport and effective working relationships with business partners, supervisors and peers.

The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's Degree in accounting, 5+ years of experience in tax accounting, preferably with the Big 4 or in a corporate setting, and working knowledge of and ability to apply tax statutes.
