Job Description

About the Role

As a Humanitarian Affairs Officer with Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), you will play a critical role in exposing and advocating about the impact of conflict and neglect on the communities we serve. Your primary responsibility will be to gather information from various stakeholders, including communities, patients, and staff, to document the human impact of disasters and conflicts.

Key Responsibilities

  • Gather testimonies and stories from communities, patients, and staff to document the human impact of disasters and conflicts.
  • Provide strategic advice on how MSF can best communicate its voice and principles to deliver critical humanitarian medical care.
  • Advise on how MSF operates and communicates in situations where access to provide medical assistance to communities in need is threatened.
  • Collate, analyze, and use the gathered information to draw up unbiased reports on a wide variety of issues, including the efficacy of humanitarian responses, war crimes committed against civilians, and the exclusion of certain communities from medical care.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in anthropology, social or political science, law, or gender studies.
  • Relevant work experience with data collection, qualitative research, and human rights monitoring.
  • Minimum one year experience in humanitarian advocacy in a context similar to where MSF works.
  • Good understanding of current humanitarian debates and the dilemma-compromise nature of modern humanitarian interventions.
  • Excellent writing, research, and analytical skills.
  • Experience in managing staff in a multicultural team.
  • Excellent command of English, as well as French (level B2) or another language (Arabic, Spanish).
