About This Role

We are seeking a skilled Building Operator to join our team at Black & McDonald Limited. As a key member of our Facilities Management & Operations team, you will be responsible for maintaining safe conditions within our facilities, performing minor repairs, and utilizing computerized building management systems.

Key Responsibilities
  • Plan and execute maintenance activities in accordance with our computerized maintenance management system
  • Coordinate work activities with other subcontractors and establish methods to meet work schedules
  • Perform basic inspections on various building systems, including emergency generators, fire alarms, and security access systems
  • Respond to requests from Housing Managers and work with our Call Center to ensure timely responses and resolutions
  • Perform light duties such as cleaning, painting, HVAC, plumbing, and other mechanical tasks, supervising subcontractor technicians and mechanics as needed
  • Build and maintain relationships with customers and suppliers/vendors
  • Assist in developing and implementing quality control programs
  • Assist in purchasing building materials
  • Review work/contracts/Work In Progress for areas of risk and correct deficiencies
  • Adhere to all Corporate Health & Safety regulations and policies

Education and Experience Requirements
  • Power Engineering Certification is an asset but not required
  • 1-3 years' experience as a Building Operator/Handyman or similar role
  • 1-3 years' experience working within commercial buildings/facilities or in construction would be considered an asset
Skills, Abilities, and Other Requirements
  • Comfortable working in the Downtown Eastside environment
  • Basic computer skills and working knowledge of Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Knowledge in building automation, mechanical, electrical, and fire life systems is an asset
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instruction
  • Team player with excellent customer service skills
  • Ability to maintain a professional demeanor at all times
  • Available for occasional Emergency after-hours duties as part of a rotation
  • Available to travel within the DTES
  • Clean Class 5 BC Driver's License and Abstract

Expected compensation for this role is a starting pay range between $27-$33/hour dependent on skills and experience.
