About this role

We are seeking a skilled Child Development Specialist to join our team at Chemainus Community Schools Association.

Job Summary

This is a permanent, part-time position (33 hours per week) with competitive pay ($45,000 - $60,000 per year, depending on experience). The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and implementing child-care programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children;
  • Lead activities such as storytelling, teaching songs, and taking children to local points of interest;
  • Assist early childhood educators in carrying out programs that promote the physical, cognitive, emotional, and social development of children;
  • Encourage children to express creativity through various media;
  • Engage children in activities that foster learning and development;
  • Guide and assist children in developing proper eating, dressing, and toilet habits;
  • Prepare snacks and arrange rooms or furniture for lunch and rest periods;
  • Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioral problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians, or supervisors;
  • Discuss progress and problems of children at staff meetings.
Requirements
  • Secondary (high) school graduation certificate;
  • 1 to less than 7 months of experience in a related field;
  • Criminal record check and immunization records required.
