Speech and Hearing Assistant

Job Summary
This role is responsible for providing support to patients with speech and hearing needs at Chilliwack General Hospital. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists to administer routine screenings and procedures, assist with patient treatments, and maintain inventory and equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer routine screenings and procedures to patients, including hearing screenings, impedance and pure tone testing, and the Hearing Handicap Inventory for the Elderly (HHIE)
- Assist with patient treatments under the supervision of a Speech-Language Pathologist, including thermal stimulation, oral-motor exercises, and communication exercises
- Prepare patient materials and related materials, including communications boards using graphics software
- Monitor the functioning of communication equipment, including Canon Communicator Units, Pocket Talkers, and hearing aids
- Provide information to patients and family members on speech and hearing topics, including communication strategies and available community resources
- Obtain patient information and complete necessary forms for speech and hearing services
- Assist with inventory control of equipment, materials, and supplies
- Record workload data for statistical purposes
Qualifications
- Completion of a Rehabilitation Assistant Program or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Valid BC Driver's License and access to a personal vehicle for business-related purposes
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing
- Ability to deal with others effectively
- Ability to organize work
- Ability to operate related equipment
- Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
