Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Recreational Programs Manager to join our team at Southbridge Care Homes. As a key member of our nursing home team, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, and directing recreational programs and staff to enhance the quality of life for our residents.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement recreational programs that cater to the diverse needs and interests of our residents, including physical, intellectual, emotional, and social activities.
  • Supervise and mentor a team of recreational staff, including music therapists and volunteers, to ensure high-quality program delivery.
  • Collaborate with other departments to coordinate therapeutic program development and delivery.
  • Assess departmental needs and develop action plans to improve program effectiveness.
  • Recruit, coach, and mentor staff to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge to deliver high-quality programs.
  • Develop and manage program budgets to ensure efficient use of resources.
  • Act as Education Lead for the home, providing training and support to staff on recreational programming and best practices.
  • Participate in Interdisciplinary Team Conferences, Professional Advisory Care Conferences, and Quality Improvement meetings to ensure alignment with organizational goals.
Requirements
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in recreation and leisure studies, therapeutic recreation, kinesiology, or a related field.
  • Knowledge of palliative care, holistic care, activation, and dementia care principles.
  • Minimum one year of supervisory experience in a long-term care setting.
  • Experience in planning, developing, and evaluating recreational programs for frail, elderly residents using an interdisciplinary approach.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Knowledge of community resources, program development, MOHLTC standards, and ministry of long-term care standards.
  • Previous supervisory experience in long-term care an asset.
  • At least one year of experience working with seniors in an organized program or one year of experience working with persons in a healthcare setting required.
  • Experience or knowledge in recruitment, selection, orientation, placement, and supervision of volunteers required.
  • Sufficient knowledge and experience to coordinate religious services and spiritual care in a multi-faith setting required.
  • Flexible and willing to work on call when needed.
