Job Summary: We are seeking a skilled Security Officer to join our team at Mount Sinai Hospital. As a Security Officer, you will play a vital role in maintaining a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff.

About the Role: The Security Officer will be responsible for monitoring and actively patrolling the emergency department waiting areas, engaging with patients and visitors, and developing a positive safety culture. They will also use supportive verbal techniques to de-escalate potentially violent behavior and maintain effective communication with clinical and operational stakeholder groups.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Continuously monitor the emergency department waiting areas and proactively engage with patients, visitors, and staff to develop a positive safety culture.
  • Use supportive verbal techniques to identify and manage potentially violent behavior.
  • Maintain effective communication with clinical and operational stakeholder groups, including triage, admitting, nursing, social work, mental health, security, and volunteers.
  • Act as a principal contact for security services within the emergency department and liaise with emergency responders when managing individuals who may pose a risk of violence.
  • Conduct hourly censuses of the number of persons in the waiting areas and document observations relating to obvious visual changes to the apparent health of those awaiting services.
  • Maintain basic data concerning client contacts made during each shift.

Requirements:

  • Minimum 1 year security experience.
  • COVID double vaccinated.
  • Proof of immunizations for TB, MMR, Varicella.
  • Standard First Aid, CPR Level C.
  • Valid Ontario Security License.
