Job Summary:
The Canadian Red Cross is seeking a Mental Health Advisor to advance the provision of mental health and psychosocial support across operations and programs, primarily to those impacted by emergencies and crises.
Key Responsibilities:
- Deploy nationally to support impacted populations, including Indigenous communities and remote and/or fly-in communities.
- Work in close collaboration with other Red Cross personnel and community partners to contribute to Red Cross commitments to service delivery.
- Conduct psychosocial assessments to better understand impacts on affected communities and develop recommendations for service design and delivery.
- Identify and collaborate with community partners to ensure holistic support for impacted individuals.
- Provide guidance to personnel working in the field on complex mental health, psychosocial, and protection considerations.
- Lead capacity-building activities as relevant to the operation or program.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of mental health services through end-of-mission reporting and debriefing.
Requirements:
- Registered professionals with a degree in public health, medicine, psychology, social work, nursing, or other mental health-related field.
- Training and/or experience in Psychological First Aid and crisis and/or suicide intervention.
- Experience in an emergency environment, such as response to disasters, crisis events, or humanitarian crises.
- Demonstrated ability to prioritize affected individuals and communities, coordinate with stakeholders, and think critically about complex issues.
- Advanced level of reflexivity to work effectively in a fast-paced and changing environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication in English is essential; French/English bilingual is a strong asset and mandatory in Quebec.
Working Conditions:
- Advisors are deployed based on operational and programmatic needs within an activation window of 24-48 hours for 2-3 weeks.
- Field missions can involve working in unstable and unpredictable environments, requiring non-traditional working hours and strict adherence to security regulations.
Eligibility:
- Eligibility to work in Canada is required; at this time, we welcome applications from candidates eligible to work in Canada.
Pre-Employment Screening:
- A successful Enhanced Police Information Check (E-PIC) is required.

- The CRC has temporarily suspended our Covid-19 vaccination policy and does not require but continues to strongly encourage full vaccination of all our personnel.
