Marine Structural Engineer-in-Training Opportunity

Hatch, a leading consultancy, is seeking a highly motivated Structural Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to join the Ports & Terminals team in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support the analysis and design of marine structures, including offshore piled docks, caisson quay-walls, and sheet-pile retaining walls.
  • Conduct seismic assessments of existing and new marine structures, design upgrades to improve seismic capacity, and extend the life of existing marine facilities.
  • Collaborate with coastal specialists to account for wave loads on structures, impact of climate change, and develop mooring and berthing designs.
  • Support technicians in developing design drawings from engineering sketches, determine appropriate scales, layout, and need for specific details.
  • Work with other designers, project engineers, and project managers to execute and deliver project requirements, including drawings, technical specifications, technical reports, cost estimates, schedules, etc.
  • Provide construction administration services, including monitoring compliance of constructed works relative to design requirements, responding to Requests for Information, documentation of construction activities, processing of progress payments, quality assurance, etc.
  • Interface with clients and other project technical discipline leads, as required.
  • Comply with company quality control policies and procedures.
  • Provide leadership and direction to less experienced field, design, and administration support staff.
  • Support other technical disciplines and offices, as required.
  • Support business development, including preparation of proposals.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's Degree in a Civil Engineering discipline from an accredited University. Master's Degree preferred in the fields of structural, seismic, ports, and marine engineering.
  • Registered EIT in British Columbia, or eligible for professional registration.
  • 1-2 years of proven consulting engineering experience with significant experience on bridge structures projects.
  • Strong communication, coordination, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet demanding schedules and adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively support and contribute to a positive team environment.
