About the Job

GATX is a leading provider of railcar leasing and maintenance services in North America, India, and Europe. We are seeking a skilled Railcar Technician to join our team at our Montreal facility.

Job Summary

The Railcar Technician will be responsible for performing all aspects of repair and maintenance on GATX's railcars, as well as foreign cars. This is a full-time position that requires no prior experience in rail or related activities, as we provide comprehensive training to our employees.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform repairs and maintenance on railcars, including dismantling, repairing, installing, and renewing coil, valves, and miscellaneous tank car fittings.
  • Undertake minor welding work on railcars, with training provided as required.
  • Operate equipment such as chains, slings, hoists, and forklifts to perform assigned tasks.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly work area.
  • Work in confined spaces and at heights.
Requirements
  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) required.
  • Welding experience acquired through formal training or prior work experience is a plus, but not required.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as repair manuals, instructions, work orders, etc.
  • Ability to work effectively individually and/or in groups.
  • Initiative and autonomy to determine and carry out important tasks.
  • Diligence and reliability at work, with the ability to complete all hours of work, rarely absent, and complete all assigned tasks at a reasonable period of time.
Work Hours and Location
  • Morning Shift: Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM - 2:30 PM.
  • Afternoon Shift: Monday to Thursday, 2:30 PM - 1:00 AM.
  • Work location: 9300 Boulevard Maurice Duplessis, Montreal, QC H1E 1M7.
