Job Summary

We are seeking a skilled Dietary Aide to join our team at Extendicare Canada Inc. in Ottawa. As a Dietary Aide, you will play a vital role in ensuring the high-quality food service experience for our residents.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve food to residents according to individual diets and preferences, maintaining proper serving temperatures and observing time limits for meal serving.
  • Assist Cooks in cleaning and preparing uncooked food, such as salads, vegetables, and fruits, following basic instructions in preparing simple foods like breakfast items, basic desserts, and garnishes.
  • Clear plates and trays, load and operate the dishwasher, and clean pots, pans, and cooking utensils as per procedure.
  • Participate in proper storage and labeling of dietary supplies and food, including leftovers, and adhere to established departmental policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, fire safety, environment, and infection control.
  • Assemble nourishment carts and stock unit kitchenettes, participating in facility meetings as assigned and attending in-service education programs.
  • Other duties as assigned by Supervisor.

Requirements

  • Current Food Handler's Certificate
  • Previous dietary experience in Long Term Care (LTC) preferred, with 0-1 year(s) of experience.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods and moderate to heavy lifting.
  • Ability to read and write English and understand simple verbal and written instructions in English.
  • Ability to work safely, following established safety practices and procedures.
  • Successful candidates must be available for workdays, evenings, weekends, and statutory holidays, with the ability to pick up shifts as needed.
