Job Summary


The York Region District School Board seeks a highly skilled and experienced Heavy Duty Transportation Technician to join our team. This is a rewarding opportunity for a motivated individual who is passionate about providing excellent service to support the safe transportation of students.


About the Role

This is a full-time, permanent position that reports directly to the Shop Foreman. As a key member of our Transportation Department, you will be responsible for performing routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on our fleet of buses to ensure they are in good working condition.


Key Responsibilities

  1. Preventative Maintenance: Support and maintain a preventative maintenance service program to extend the life of our buses and reduce downtime.
  2. Vehicle Inspections: Conduct regular inspections to identify potential issues and perform necessary repairs to ensure buses are roadworthy.
  3. Mechanical Repairs: Perform mechanical repairs, including replacing parts, adjusting systems, and conducting tests to diagnose issues.
  4. Inventory Management: Assist in maintaining an adequate inventory of vehicle parts and equipment, ordering supplies as needed, and keeping accurate records.

Requirements

To be successful in this role, you must have a minimum of three years of experience in heavy duty mechanics, with a strong background in transportation and fleet maintenance. You should possess a valid Class 2 Driver's License with an 'S' endorsement, as well as certification in Cummins Insite and QuickServe. Your expertise in Occupational Health & Safety Regulations, WHMIS, and computer software, including Microsoft Office, is also essential.


Working Conditions

You will work independently, with minimal supervision, in a fast-paced environment. You must be able to lift, bend, twist, turn, and climb to perform tasks involving medium load work. Your ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment, present a professional attitude and appearance, and maintain confidentiality is crucial.


What We Offer
