Job Summary

We are seeking an experienced Heavy Duty Mechanic to join our team at Wapiti Gravel Suppliers, a division of Colas Western Canada Inc. As a Heavy Duty Mechanic, you will be responsible for providing diagnostic and repair services in the field, inspecting and repairing gasoline and diesel powered units, and performing maintenance and repair activities on various pieces of heavy equipment.

Key Responsibilities
  • Operate the company service truck to provide diagnostic and repair services in the field.
  • Inspect, repair and adjust gasoline and diesel powered units.
  • Perform maintenance and repair activities on various pieces of heavy equipment, including pavers, loaders, skid steers, graders, excavators, dozers, backhoes and trucks.
  • Diagnose, service and repair various systems found on pieces of heavy equipment, such as mechanical and computer electronic controls, air brake systems, transmissions, high voltage generators, propane powered equipment and pneumatic systems.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks and adjustments to fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires and clutches.
  • Diagnose problems, disassemble units, repair or replace parts and reassemble units in the following systems:
Requirements and Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D. preferred
  • Journeyman Heavy Equipment Technician
  • Class 5 Drivers License
Working Conditions
  • Bi-weekly schedule of 6 working days, 1 day off/ 5 working days, 2 days off with up to 12 hours per day during construction season and condensed work week during winter months. Overtime is paid in accordance with applicable employment standards legislation.
  • Ability to travel overnight may be required occasionally. Accommodations and Live Out Allowance is applicable in most situations.
  • Work is performed in an outdoor setting, which could include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust and asphalt.
  • Must be physically able to repetitively lift and carry at least 50 LBS on a regular basis.
  • Use of Personal Protection Equipment is required.
  • Use of sunscreen, long sleeves, and appropriate headgear is recommended.
  • Must comply with the company's drug and alcohol testing requirements.
