Job Title: Teacher of the Blind or Visually Impaired

At School District #27 (Cariboo-Chilcotin), we are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Teacher of the Blind or Visually Impaired to join our team.

Job Summary:

The successful candidate will provide leadership in the provision of services for students who are blind or have low vision, promoting inclusion and supporting students to access the curriculum in the most enabling environment within their school community.

Key Responsibilities:
  1. Support and promote inclusion for students who are blind or have low vision, ensuring they have access to the curriculum and participate fully in school life.
  2. Provide leadership in the provision of services for students who are blind or have low vision, working collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and other professionals to ensure a comprehensive and inclusive education.
  3. Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that cater to the unique needs of students who are blind or have low vision, ensuring they receive the support and accommodations necessary to succeed.
  4. Collaborate with teachers and support staff to develop and implement strategies to promote accessibility and inclusion in the classroom and school environment.
  5. Provide training and support to teachers and support staff on best practices for teaching students who are blind or have low vision, ensuring they have the skills and confidence to provide high-quality support.
Requirements:

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Strong knowledge of the curriculum and teaching strategies for students who are blind or have low vision.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with teachers, support staff, and other professionals.
  • Ability to develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) that cater to the unique needs of students who are blind or have low vision.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and manage multiple responsibilities.
