About the Role

The Canadian Armed Forces is seeking a skilled Parachute Systems Specialist to join our team. As an Air Drop Systems Technician, you will play a critical role in supporting airborne operations for Infantry Parachute Companies, Air Force Aerial Delivery Sections, Special Operations, and Search and Rescue.

Key Responsibilities
  • Packing and Maintenance: Ensure the safety of personnel by meticulously packing and repairing parachutes and related airborne equipment.
  • Technical Guidance: Provide invaluable technical guidance to commanders and staff, aiding in the planning and execution of airborne and airdrop operations.
  • Equipment Inspection: Conduct thorough inspections and maintenance of diverse sewing machine systems employed in the upkeep of parachutes and parachute-related equipment.
  • Operational Support: Actively participate in the support of airborne operations, including the operation of parachute systems within a broad spectrum of parachute operations.
  • Incident Investigation: Conduct in-depth investigations into Incident Malfunctions pertaining to parachute operations.
  • Supervision: Supervise the packing and maintenance of all parachute systems and related airborne equipment.
  • Qualifications: Ensure the upkeep of your required parachuting qualifications.
Requirements
  • Citizenship: Be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident living in Canada.
  • Age: Be at least 18 years old (17 years old with parental consent), except for certain programs.
  • Education: Have completed at least Grade 10 or Secondaire IV in Québec.
Work Environment

As an Air Drop Systems Technician, you will typically work indoors in a temperature-regulated warehouse handling and maintaining a variety of diverse parachute systems. However, your role extends beyond the walls of the warehouse, and you will often find yourself stepping into the field, mirroring real-world conditions for a truly immersive experience.

Training and Development

The first stage of training is the Basic Military Qualification course, which provides the basic core skills and knowledge common to all trades. As an Air Drop Systems Technician, you will attend training at the Canadian Army Advanced Warfare Centre, where you will receive initial trade training that includes expert packing and rigging of diverse parachute systems, execution of basic and advanced repairs and maintenance on parachute systems and associated airborne equipment, and completion of BASIC Parachutist training.

Specialty Training

Air Drop Systems Technicians may be offered the opportunity to develop specialized skills through formal courses and on-the-job training, including Basic Para Instructor, Jump Master, Aerial Delivery, First Aid Instructor, Helicopter Underslung Load Operator, Drop Zone/Landing Zone Controller, and Military Freefall Parachutist.

Advanced Training

As you progress in your career, you will have the opportunity to receive advanced training, including Military Freefall Jump Master, Military Freefall Para Instructor, Tandem Master, and Master Rigger.
