Occupational Health and Safety Expert

Overview: Maple Leaf Foods Inc. is seeking a dedicated Occupational Health and Safety Expert to join our team.
About the Role: The OH&S Specialist works closely with Plant Manager and the Plant Leadership team to promote Occupational Health and Safety at the facility.
Responsibilities:
- Identify hazards and assess risks to health and safety.
- Provide advice on accident prevention and occupational health to supervisors and employees.
- Design and implement workplace processes and procedures to protect workers from hazardous work conditions.
- Help supervise the investigation of accidents and unsafe working conditions, study possible causes and recommend remedial action.
- Assist with the rehabilitation of workers after accidents or injuries and ensure satisfactory return to work.
- Work with the safety captains and Joint Health and Safety Committee to inspect and test work areas for potential accident and health hazards and implement appropriate control measures.
- E nsure that personal protective equipment, such as safety glasses, footwear, and safety helmets are being used in workplaces according to regulations and that dangerous materials are correctly stored.
- E nsure that the company is aware of and complies with all legislation in relation to the use of its plant, equipment, and substances as well as in all workplace activities.
- Participate in safety committee meetings as applicable.
- Assist in coordination and documentation of training seminars.
- Assist in the development and communication of Occupational Health and Safety systems.
- Assist in special projects and duties as required.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree or diploma in occupational health and safety or related discipline, or experience equivalent 5+ years.
- Experience in the administration of policies and legislative compliance.
- Minimum of 2 years' experience in health and safety program delivery and management.
- Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety legislation combined with training in hazard recognition, assessment, and control would be an asset.
