About the Role

The District of North Vancouver is seeking a skilled Plumbing and Gas Inspector to join our Development Services team. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for ensuring that plumbing, sprinkler, heating, gas, sewer, and drainage installations meet the highest standards of quality and safety.

Key Responsibilities
  • Inspect plumbing, sprinkler, heating, gas, sewer, and drainage installations to ensure compliance with applicable codes, regulations, and standards.
  • Review plans and specifications to make technical decisions and interpret applicable regulations.
  • Provide technical advice and assistance to owners, contractors, engineers, and architects on matters related to the work.
  • Issue permits, prepare reports, and maintain records related to the work.
  • Review professional SMP designs for acceptance based on compliance with relevant District bylaws and requirements.
Requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of plumbing, sprinkler, heating, gas fitting, sewer, and drainage standards, codes, bylaws, and regulations.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal departments/staff and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to examine, check, and interpret plans and specifications and recognize requirements for plumbing, sprinkler, heating, gas, sewer, and drainage installations and systems.
  • Ability to estimate material costs and prepare reports and correspondence related to the work.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision and assume responsibility for technical decisions.
Qualifications
  • Completion of Grade 12; Certificate of Registration as a Journeyman Plumber, Provincial Gas Fitters License, Design Certificate, Level 1 POABC Qualification, Gas Comp.
  • Able to use computer applications for reports and job tracking.
  • Training and experience in fire sprinkler systems and cross-connection control is desirable.
