Geotechnical Engineer for Mine Stability

At WSP Global Inc., we are seeking a talented Junior Geotechnical Engineer to join our mine stability team. With this role, you will have the opportunity to work on exciting projects that involve data compilation and quality control, supporting report writing, and running analyses.
About the RoleThis is an entry-level position that requires a strong foundation in geotechnical engineering. You will be working in a team environment to prepare high-quality work for our diverse clients. Your role will include fieldwork at operating and abandoned mine sites.

Duties and ResponsibilitiesYou can expect to do the following:
- Fieldwork:
- Supervise drilling and earthworks/construction subcontractors during investigations;
- Supervise and monitor rehabilitation activities, such as backfilling, concrete cap construction, fence installation, general earthworks, and bat gate installation;
- Problem solving and decision making while in the field to progress project scope with regular communication/check-ins with the senior project team;
- Use survey equipment such as cavity scanners, sonar, drones, and surface surveying tools;
- Office Work:
- Compile and review data collected using Excel, Word, AutoCAD, or other software.
- Data analysis, including rock mass characterization, stability assessments, drafting, processing point cloud/survey data, development of rehabilitation options.
- Field preparation including equipment preparation, developing health and safety plans, coordinating utility locates and organizing drilling/excavator contractors.
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor of Engineering in Mining, Geological, or Civil, or technician/technologist in Mining or similar.
- Critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making skills since projects are often investigative type work.
- Experience working outdoors since this role can include working in remote locations.
- A valid driver's license. Experience in driving off-road is an asset.
The salary range for this role is approximately $60,000-$80,000 per year, depending on your qualifications and experience.
