Job Summary:

The Finance Controller is a key member of the senior leadership team at Federated Co-operatives Limited. This role is responsible for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling all financial-related activities of the association.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Direct and oversee all aspects of the Finance and Accounting functions of the Association.
  • Provide leadership to the accounting and administrative team, including talent management, performance management, and training.
  • Manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets, and reporting.
  • Ensure the credibility of the association's finances by providing timely and accurate financial reports, analysis of budgets, financial trends, and forecasts.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable federal, provincial, and local regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Participate in the development and continuous evaluation of short and long-term strategic financial objectives.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with senior leaders to identify their unit needs and seek business solutions.
  • Provide recommendations to enhance financial performance and business opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Recognized leader with a degree or diploma in Business, Finance, or Accounting, with a professional accounting designation an advantage.
  • 5-8 years of progressive experience in accounting/finance, with at least 4 years at a leadership level.
  • Sound knowledge of accounting principles and practices, and the analysis and reporting of financial data.
  • Knowledge of business and management principles involving strategic planning, resource allocation, and financial planning.
  • Knowledge of laws, government regulations, agency rules, banking, taxation, insurance, and Canadian Revenue Agency compliance rules.
  • Skilled and proficient with the use of office software, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and accounting and financial analysis software.
  • Ability to build and foster effective business relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors, and other departments within the organization.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with the ability to formulate and deliver ideas and material clearly and concisely.
